In this resource, I will review the critical components of creating and sustaining a safe, equitable, and engaging learning environment for all students in a series of 6 blog posts. Each post in this 6 part blog series will focus on a different aspect of inclusive education. I will delve into understanding the diverse social identities of students in our schools and the strategies that support their well-being, resiliency, self-regulation, and mental health. Through inquiry and collaboration, I will explore the fundamental principles and approaches to teaching in an inclusive environment. I will also discuss planning instructional processes that honour students’ learning styles, voices, strengths, and experiences.
In addition, I will explore the systemic and discriminatory barriers present in schools and systems structures and the strategies to address them. We will also analyze the influence of socioeconomic, cultural, and historical factors on student learning and family engagement while critically addressing biases, discrimination, and barriers toward inclusive education. By the end of this blog series, my goal is to demonstrate a deeper understanding of creating and sustaining positive, ethical, equitable, accepting, inclusive, engaging and safe learning environments. Knowledge and skills to implement strategies for improving student success through inquiry and to foster partnerships with diverse families that honour shared decision-making, advocacy, and leadership.
